“Financial freedom is not determined by how much you earn, but by how wisely you manage, grow, and multiply what you have.”
— Dr. Genevieve Pearl Duncan.
It was an amazing time with the students of Economics at the University of Ghana at their day 1 of the #UGES financial literacy summit. I had the opportunity to learn from my fellow speakers from #Stanbicinvestmentmanagementservices and #ProfYegandiAlagidede. A few takeouts from my session.
1.Earn, save, invest, and grow – Wealth is built through consistent financial discipline, not just a high income.
2.Budget with intention – Every cedi should have a purpose. Track income, spending, saving, and investing.#discipline is key
3.Pay yourself first – Save or invest at least 10–20% of every income before spending.
4.Understand the power of compound interest – The earlier you start investing, the greater your long-term returns.
5.Avoid lifestyle inflation – As your income increases, increase your investments rather than your expenses.
6.Differentiate between assets and liabilities – Buy assets that generate income or appreciate in value before purchasing luxury items.
7.Manage debt wisely – Borrow only for productive purposes and avoid high-interest consumer debt.
8.Build an emergency fund – Aim for 3–6 months of essential living expenses.
9. Invest in financial knowledge – Read books, follow financial news, and continue learning about markets and investments.
10. Protect your financial future – Use insurance, diversify investments, and plan for retirement early.
11. Network with professionals and seek mentors in finance and business.
